Behaviour support

At Resilient Minds Therapy, we provide comprehensive Positive Behaviour Support services that are individualised, evidence-informed, and centred around improving quality of life. Our practitioners work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, support workers, and multidisciplinary teams to understand the underlying reasons for behaviours of concern and develop practical, sustainable strategies that promote long-term positive outcomes.

Our services include Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs), Interim Behaviour Support Plans, Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans, Quality of Life Plans, implementation support, staff and caregiver training, capacity building, and ongoing review of behaviour support strategies. Every plan is tailored to the individual's strengths, goals, communication style, environment, and support network, ensuring recommendations are realistic, person-centred, and meaningful.

Where restrictive practices are in place or being considered, our practitioners are committed to ensuring they are used only as a last resort and in accordance with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements. We work proactively with participants and their support teams to identify the underlying causes of behaviours, implement positive alternatives, build skills, and reduce or eliminate restrictive practices wherever possible.

Our team has extensive experience supporting people with complex and diverse needs across the lifespan. While each practitioner brings their own areas of expertise and clinical interests, together we support individuals living with:

  • Complex mental health conditions
  • Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)
  • Complex trauma and adverse childhood experiences
  • Dual diagnosis (co-occurring disability and mental health conditions)
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Intellectual disability
  • Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
  • Psychosocial disability
  • Dementia and age-related cognitive changes
  • Neurological conditions
  • Forensic and justice-involved populations
  • Child Safety and out-of-home care involvement
  • Developmental disorders
  • Complex health and behavioural presentations

We understand that behaviour is a form of communication and that every person's experiences, strengths, culture, relationships, and environment influence how they engage with the world. Our approach is grounded in person-centred, trauma-informed, neuroaffirming, and culturally responsive practice. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with this person?", we ask, "What is this person communicating, and how can we better support them?"

Although we each have individual clinical interests and specialist experience, our team works collaboratively across the lifespan, supporting children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. This allows us to carefully match participants with the practitioner whose knowledge, experience, and therapeutic approach best align with their individual needs and goals.

Above all, our focus is on improving quality of life. We strive to empower individuals to develop new skills, strengthen relationships, increase independence, participate meaningfully in their communities, and achieve outcomes that are important to them. We believe that when people feel understood, supported, and valued, positive and sustainable change naturally follows.
