About Teela

Teela is an Entry-Level Behaviour Support Practitioner who is passionate about empowering people to live meaningful, self-directed lives through compassionate, evidence-informed Positive Behaviour Support. With more than eight years of leadership experience across the disability, aged care, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sectors, Teela brings a wealth of practical knowledge and a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for people with complex support needs.

Holding an Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management, Teela has extensive experience within the NDIS, case management, and multidisciplinary service delivery. Throughout her career, she has supported individuals with diverse presentations, including those involved with forensic mental health services, Child Safety, and the justice system.

Philosophy of Practice

Teela's practice is grounded in person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive principles. She believes that all behaviour serves a purpose and reflects an individual's needs, experiences, and environment. Rather than focusing on changing the individual, Teela seeks to understand the reasons behind behaviour and works collaboratively to create environments that promote safety, independence, inclusion, and quality of life.

As a proud First Nations woman, Teela understands the importance of culture, identity, family, and community in supporting wellbeing. She is committed to providing culturally safe and respectful practice that recognises and values each person's unique story, strengths, and lived experiences. She believes meaningful relationships and trust are the foundation of effective behaviour support and strives to ensure every participant feels heard, respected, and empowered throughout their journey.

Approach

Teela combines evidence-based Positive Behaviour Support with practical, strengths-based strategies tailored to each individual's circumstances. She works collaboratively with participants, families, carers, support workers, and multidisciplinary teams to identify the underlying functions of behaviours of concern and develop strategies that are realistic, sustainable, and meaningful.

Her practice focuses on supporting:

  • Understanding the function of behaviour
  • Functional communication and skill development
  • Emotional regulation and co-regulation
  • Capacity building for families and support teams
  • Reduction and elimination of restrictive practices
  • Increased independence, participation, and quality of life

Teela believes that the most successful outcomes occur when everyone involved shares a consistent understanding of the person's needs and works together to create positive, lasting change.
